In summer January 2024, the Al Murtaza Centre Trust, with generous funding from COG, hosted a memorable community picnic at Good Planet Zaberri World in Auckland. This event brought together over 150 community members, including children, teens, and their families, for a day packed with fun, cultural celebration, and outdoor activities.

The sun was out, and the atomosphere was lively and welcoming, perfect for fostering camaraderie and a sense of belonging.

Children and adults enjoyed picking strawberries straight from the farm. Some preferred taking the short train ride to the farm while others raced there passing the blueberries and mulberries plantations.

After the hard work of collecting the juiciest strawberries in their buckets, the families gathered at the icecream shop to enjoy fresh fruit ice cream, sorbets and shakes to cool down.

The community picnic successfully achieved its objective of promoting social cohesion and community engagement by bringing together families from diverse backgrounds in a beautiful location.

The strawberry farm was an inviting space where families could relax, enjoy each other’s company, and connect with their peers. Laughter filled the air as kids played, enjoyed the rides, made new friends while parents exchanged stories with each other. Moreover, the picnic served as a celebration of our culture as families were encouraged to dress in their traditional attire.

This event truly embodied the spirit of togetherness, proving once again that when we celebrate our differences, we build a stronger, more connected community

We look forward to more events that continue to bring people together and celebrate the rich tapestry of our diverse community.
